The culinary landscape of Cape Town and South Africa has changed considerably in the last thirteen years, sculpted in large part by the hands of Luke Dale Roberts. Deep in the Awards’ Season, you will find the many protégés that have trained and learned under his tutelage and now branched out and become exceptional chefs in their own right.

The idea of mentorship had been in Luke’s thoughts for a while, watching as his protégés achieved acclaim and success and seeing both the gratifying and humbling upshot of the mentor/mentee relationship.

Luke reminisced of himself as a young chef learning his trade, and the people in his life that taught him the lessons that eventually brought him to this moment: his culinary mentors, Graham Garrett and Kevin Hopgood.

Thus, the idea of the LDR Origins – The Mentors’ Event originated, Luke, Graham and Kevin, will gather and collaborate once more… but this time in Luke’s kitchen.

On January 3rd and 4th 2020, The Test Kitchen will, for two days only, play host to the “LDR Origins – The Mentors”, A journey around the British Isles. Lunch is a 9-course experience, featuring four snacks and five plated courses, with wine pairing, for R2,450. Dinner is a 12-course experience, featuring six snacks and six plated courses, with wine pairing, for R3,500. Prepared by three celebrated chefs brought together from three continents. Luke Dale Roberts, Kevin Hopgood and Graham.

Graham Garrett

“Being in a position to get together to cook with two of your best mates is a real privilege that I know will result in some amazing food, great laughs and a few new memories”
“I strongly believe that mentorship is the most important part of anyone’s career and regularly preach that fact. It fills me with immense pride when people that you’ve trained and believed in go on to their own success”.

Kevin Hopgood

“I was really excited when Luke came up with the idea of collaborating with myself and Graham… It is a great opportunity to see how Luke has progressed and become one of the world’s best chefs, and I can’t wait to see what the trainee can now teach the mentor.”
“I love being able to give back to the industry that has given me so much, and mentoring is a great way to do that.”
